Asus UL20 Review

“Thin and light” laptops are considered to the the new middle ground between netbooks and standard laptops, offering long battery life, with a lighter design than most laptops, but offering more powerful specifications. The 12.1-inch Asus UL20A is pretty much the same size as some of the larger 11.6-inch netbooks on the market, but offers more powerful specifications.” (NetbookReviews, 2009)

“The new Asus UL20, UL30, UL50 and UL80 series laptops are not part of the company’s Eee PC netbook line. But the smallest member of the family sports a 12.1 inch screen and weighs just 3.3 pounds, which means the Asus UL20 isn’t much bigger than some Eee PC models like the Eee PC 1101HA. But the UL20 is potentially going to be a heck of a lot more powerful.” (LiliPuting, 2009)

“The new ASUS UL20A notebook is equipped with 12.1-inch LED Backlight display, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, 2GB RAM, and 250GB hard drive. In addition, users can choose either Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor (1.3GHz), Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 (1.4GHz) or Intel Celeron SU2300 (1.2GHz) as processor and cache memory of the notebook. Furthermore, the notebook is also equipped with WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, 6-cell battery, and Windows Vista Home Premium with free upgrade to Windows 7. Unfortunately, the UL20 notebook not comes with built-in optical drive.” (MyDigitalLife, 2009)

“The ASUS UL50AG is a harmonious blend of form and function. “Intel’s CULV processors promise cheaper ultraportables, so it’s a little odd to find one inside a laptop as large as the ASUS UL50. It’s certainly thinner and lighter as a result, but it’s still pretty large and not something you’d want to take out on the road. If it’s going to be desk-bound for much of the day, then that long battery life isn’t worth much, particularly when it comes at the expense of processor performance. We’ll have a better idea of what the UL50 is about once we know the price (we’re still waiting for confirmation from ASUS), so until then, we’re on the fence with this one.” (MobileComputerMag, 2009)

Reviews

“The 1005HA is undoubtedly a member of the expanding Eee PC lineup, and while it’s numbered lower than the aforesaid 1008HA, there are actually a few aspects that we prefer on this model versus its predecessor. Actually, maybe predecessor isn’t the proper term; it’s not like the 1005HA is taking the place of the 1008HA. In fact, we envision them both hanging around on store shelves for some time to come. ” (HotHardware, 2009)

“The new ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell might seem like “just another Eee PC” at first glance, but upon closer examination it’s clear that ASUS has refined their popular line of netbooks with every variation. The Eee PC 1005A is one of the best eveolutions of the Eee PC line so far.” (NotebookReview, 2009)

“Benchmarks were also another strong point for the 1005HA Seashell. In almost all tests, the 1005HA performed slightly faster than its 1000HE predecessor. Both feature an Intel N280 Atom processor that runs 60MHz faster than the other netbooks with the N270 processor. The only test that the 1005HA didn’t come out on top with was our HD Tune test. With only a SATA I hard drive, the max transfer rates were somewhat limited. However… we feel this is completely masked by the fact that we have a cost efficient netbook in our hands that lasts over 10 hours on a single charge! That is what netbooks are all about.” (LegitReviews, 2009)
