Lenovo has just announced three more laptops releases from its Thinkpad line of laptops. We are trying to make it with whatever details we have. We knew, for one, that these three laptops feature the Intel Core i3-330M. More on the features later but first let’s reveal the names of these three new Lenovo laptops, they are Thinkpad T410i, T410si and T510i. All three laptops carry a strong and powerful look by the looks of them in black. There’s a 2-megapixel camera ala webcam that can be used to video chat or just take shots of oneself with the software provided. And it comes with finger security. Now more on each of these laptops; the Thinkpad T410i comes with 14-inch screen that features a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 250-320GB HDD and Mobile Intel Express Chipset QM57. The Thinkpad T410si comes with a 14-inch screen with 1440 x 900 pixel resolution. Lastly, the Thinkpad T510i comes with a 15-inch screen (1366 x 768 pixel resolution). That’s all we know for now until more details drop by.

“The web has become the window to the world for more and more people, helping them connect with friends and family across town or thousands of miles away,” said Peter Gaucher, executive director, Mobile Internet Product Management, Lenovo. “Skylight combines the long battery life and connectivity of a smartphone with the full web browsing and multimedia experience of a netbook to create one of the first devices in this developing smartbook category. Consumers want choices. They can now choose from a full portfolio of Lenovo mobile consumer devices including netbooks, smartbooks and laptops.”

“Now more than ever, consumers are looking for devices that will keep them connected virtually anytime whether they are at home or on the go,” said David Haight, vice president, business development, AT&T Mobility. “The Lenovo Skylight is slim and attractive with extraordinary battery life, and when paired with the nation’s fastest 3G network and AT&T Wi-Fi service, it gives consumers a great web and media experience on the go.”

Skylight brings users a brand new way to enhance their mobile web experience:

Beauty and Brains – Thinner than many smartphones, Skylight’s sleek and lightweight design is a technological combination of beauty and function. Skylight is being introduced in two new vibrant colors, glossy lotus blue and earth red models. Skylight’s clamshell design opens to reveal a brilliant high definition 10 inch screen designed for watching high definition videos or viewing photos. Weighing less than two pounds, Skylight is extremely mobile and lightweight enough for the user to tote it in a purse, backpack or bag. Unlike many netbooks, Skylight’s full size keyboard makes typing easy.

No Power Cord? No Problem – Skylight has over 10 hours of active battery life,1 enough to allow the user to watch two movies or more back to back on the next plane flight. Simply plug it in at night to charge like a mobile phone.

Wireless Freedom – Skylight has built-in WiFi and 3G connectivity to give users a web connection nearly everywhere they go, and Skylight will seamlessly handoff between the WiFi and 3G. With the purchase of a qualified AT&T DataConnect plan, users get 3G data but also have access to AT&T’s nationwide Wi-Fi network, including more than 20,000 U.S. hot spots for fast and easy web access on the go.

Web Optimized Interface – Skylight’s unique custom interface lets the full capabilities of the web shine through with live web gadgets. Users can check Google Gmail™, update their Facebook™ status, see what’s new on YouTube™ or browse the Internet simultaneously without having to continually refresh or log in. There are more than 18 preloaded web gadgets including Amazon MP3 to download digital music favorites and Roxio CinemaNow to buy and download digital movies. Powered by the Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon chipset platform and featuring 20 GB of standard flash and 2 GB of cloud storage, Skylight delivers the performance needed for mobile users unwilling to compromise their mobile experience and the flexibility to store their data wherever they like – in the cloud or on the device.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform offers a powerful combination of mobile processing performance, optimized power consumption, ubiquitous connectivity and powerful multimedia in a single chip.

“Snapdragon-based devices like the Lenovo Skylight will change the way we connect to the world and how we enjoy the web and media while on the go,” said Luis Pineda, senior vice president, Marketing and Product Management, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. “Lenovo is leading the way for innovation in this space by utilizing the groundbreaking capabilities of our Snapdragon platform. We are excited for consumers to enjoy the new mobile experiences that the Skylight will deliver, such as extended battery life and increased connectivity.”

-Lenovo today announced the industry’s first hybrid PC for consumers, the IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook, featuring a groundbreaking detachable screen. The IdeaPad U1’s unique design is engineered to provide consumers with two PCs in one device – each with its own processor and operating system – that work together and independently as either a clamshell laptop or a multitouch slate tablet.

“By fusing the functionality of a notebook with the slate tablet’s rich multitouch entertainment and mobile Internet experience, U1 provides consumers the freedom to choose the device they prefer for any activity.”

“The IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook is a game-changing technology in the PC industry that lets user switch their PC experience within a single device to match their dynamic lifestyle,” said Liu Jun, senior vice president, Idea Product Group, Lenovo. “By fusing the functionality of a notebook with the slate tablet’s rich multitouch entertainment and mobile Internet experience, U1 provides consumers the freedom to choose the device they prefer for any activity.”

The IdeaPad U1’s fashionable scarlet red exterior has a footprint just smaller than a piece of notebook paper and is paired with an equally impressive 3.8 pound thin and light design. With its unique detach-and-converge design, users can easily remove the screen to instantly switch from clamshell mode into a multitouch slate tablet. When the IdeaPad U1 is in its traditional clamshell form, the system boasts an 11.6 inch HD LED screen and runs Windows 7. When the 1.6 pound, multitouch screen is removed, it becomes an independent slate tablet with a powerful ARM processor, running Lenovo’s customized Skylight operating system.

Two Brains are Better than One

Leveraging the benefits of both CPU, the two devices can synchronize to work as one with the ability to share battery power, 3G wireless, data and documents. In this way, the base laptop system can serve as a hub and docking station and the slate tablet as a mobile device. The two PCs have been engineered to work together and independently through Lenovo’s Hybrid Switch technology that enables seamless toggling between the two processors. For instance, users can surf the Web in laptop mode and then continue from the same point without interruption if they detach to tablet mode.

“Me Centric” User Interface Provides Instant Gratification for Today’s Consumers

Lenovo’s hybrid notebook also features a customized “Me” centric tablet interface for comfortable landscape and portrait viewing. Users can switch between a six-section display and a four section display. U1’s six-section screen display is designed to enhance the mobile internet experience by letting users easily multitouch access multiple Web-based applications at once such as email, calendars, RSS readers and social networking Web sites. The four-section screen display option is perfect as a media center on the PC such as photos, music, videos and to view/edit documents.

IdeaPad U1 Doubles Entertainment Fun

The IdeaPad U1’s laptop and tablet modes each support more than five hours of 3G Web browsing and 60 hours of 3G standby. In addition, the U1 comes with integrated video camera and two stereo speakers with integrated microphone with echo cancellation make this the ideal PC for users who need flexibility but do not want to compromise features or functionality.

Pricing and Availability

The Lenovo IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook will be available June 1, 2010, with an estimated retail price of $999.1

The new laptops are based on upcoming Intel® Core™ dual-core processors and equip users with faster multi-tasking performance, more energy efficient performance and greater manageability for IT departments. Beyond powerful processing performance improvements, the new laptops extend individual productivity with never before seen ThinkPad 22 hour battery life on select models, more multitouch screen options and a single wireless broadband solution with the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 module.

“These latest enhancements in processing speed, battery life and wireless technologies help users work faster, longer and smarter.”

“ThinkPad laptops are built for business with the performance, portability and wireless capabilities users need and the manageability, reliability and durability IT departments require,” said Peter Hortensius, senior vice president, ThinkPad Business Unit, Lenovo. “These latest enhancements in processing speed, battery life and wireless technologies help users work faster, longer and smarter.”

The T410s provides a thin and light design with full performance for extremely mobile users, while the T410 and T510 are designed for full performance for mainstream business users. The high performance W510 mobile workstation fits the needs of professionals in data and graphics-demanding fields like oil and gas, computer aided design and photography.

Productivity through Performance

The new PCs offer maximum processing performance with a selection of new upcoming Intel® Core™ processors. Combined with upcoming Intel® Core™ vPro technology and Lenovo’s ThinkVantage Technologies’ manageability features, IT departments can remotely manage their PC fleet and deploy power settings, Internet connection profiles and more. Additionally, Intel® Turbo Boost Technology1 on the W510 and T Series laptops automatically and intelligently accelerates performance, dynamically adjusting to the workload to give business users an immediate performance boost when needed.

The new W510 brings mobile workstation performance to a higher level. More powerful than before, the W510 can now support up to 16 GB of memory and quad core processors. The W510 has four memory slots for up to 16GB of high performance 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. It also offers Nvidia’s 1GB GPU and the latest Intel® Core™ i7 processors. As the first ThinkPad to offer USB 3.0, users can transfer data quickly reaching speeds up to 10x the performance over USB 2.0.

The T410s now comes with Nvidia switchable graphics with 512 MB of VRAM so users can balance a visually-intense graphics experience with energy efficiency and battery life. The laptops are also certified under Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience program for Windows 7. This means they start up significantly faster than identical configuration, non-optimized PCs. For example, on select Think PCs, Windows 7 starts up to 56 percent faster compared to running Windows XP or Vista and shuts down in as little as five seconds2.

For added convenience, a powered USB port comes on all the new PCs and can be used to charge MP3 players, phones and other devices when the PC is on, on standby or off (if plugged in).

Productivity by Design

The W510 gives users a new kind of power – the power of touch – for a new way to work with an optional multi-finger touch screen. Lenovo includes the SimpleTap application to help make navigating the touchscreen simple. The W510 also has added an optional color calibrator, first debuted in the ThinkPad W700 mobile workstation, to help ensure the most accurate colors on its high gamut full high definition screen.

The new laptops also improve the typing experience with larger Escape and Delete keys. Since Lenovo found users hit the Delete and Escape keys up to 700 times a week on average, the sizes of these keys have been increased starting with the T400s laptop.

Productivity by Mobility

To extend the workday even longer without plugging in, Lenovo offers a new nine cell slice battery on the T410, T510 and W510 laptops for up to 22 hours of battery life3. The laptops also offer optional 3G connectivity leveraging EV-DO and HSPA wireless networks with Qualcomm Gobi 2000™ technology. This module allows businesses to standardize on a single hardware platform that can be deployed globally and accommodate multiple carriers to simplify international deployments.

“Small to medium business customers tell us they want PCs with bold yet professional designs, uncompromising durability and reliability with the latest technologies that meets their budgets,” said Fran O’Sullivan, senior vice president, Think Product Group, Lenovo. “Our answer is the new ThinkPad Edge family of laptops. They deliver stunning technology and powerful performance at an unprecedented value.”

Sophisticated and Simple Design

The ThinkPad Edge Series laptops reflect a new progressive and strikingly clean appearance while retaining ThinkPad durability and reliability. For example, the laptops include spill-resistant keyboards and value-added ThinkVantage Technologies like the Active Protection System and Rescue and Recovery.

However, the new laptops blend expressive design and ease of use in several new ways:

Contemporary Keyboard – A new contemporary keyboard gives the laptop a clean and inviting look. Uniform black keys and removal of the embedded number pad also help create a modern design. The Function keys have even been re-designed so that users only need to use one finger to access multimedia functions and more. Other rarely used keys like System Request have been removed. Additionally, select models of the ThinkPad Edge 14 and 15 inch versions will come with illuminated keyboards for visibility in low light conditions while adding a touch of elegance to the keyboard.

Expanded Touchpad – A large multitouch touchpad provides an oversized landing pad for fingers to pinch, zoom and scroll.

Expressive, Colorful Palette – Midnight Black in either gloss or soft finishes remain the traditional color for business, but for those who want to make a statement, ThinkPad Edge laptops come in Heatwave Red too. Additionally, a sleek silver band frames the exterior of the laptop.

SMB Performance Gets New Edge

SMBs “are a 24 x 7 business,” and their PC technology reflects their personal brand. Lenovo designed the ThinkPad Edge Series specifically to give these customers stylish and eye-catching designs with high performance, reliability and the latest technologies including:

Great performance with choices of AMD Turion and Athlon Neo dual core processors or Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low voltage and standard dual core processors1

Optimized for Windows 7 under Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience program

Long battery life of over eight hours2

Wireless connectivity technologies including WiFi and optional Bluetooth, 3G and WiMAX3

Crisp and clear voice over Internet protocol with Skype™ software, high definition speakers, high resolution, low light sensitivity cameras and microphone and camera mute keys

Commitment to green technology. The laptops carry a Gold rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool and meet Energy Star 5.0. The Edge laptops contain no foam and use many materials which are derived from 100 percent recycled content, such as thermoplastic, sugarcane or sorghum

“Expanding our relationship with Lenovo to include ThinkPad laptops represents a turning point for AMD’s commercial client business and creates enormous opportunity for both companies,” said Leslie Sobon, vice president, Product Marketing, AMD. “By basing these laptops on VISION Pro Technology, Lenovo is enabling customers to gain a competitive advantage with performance you can see on today’s collaboration and visual productivity applications, unbeatable value at every price point and a means of eliminating IT headaches through open standards manageability and security features.”

Total Service and Support

Lenovo also offers a full suite of flexible service and support solutions for the new ThinkPad Edge Series. Lenovo-branded services give customers and business partners a single source solution that helps minimize risks and increases protection and productivity.

The Lenovo G550 is a media-centered notebook laptop that hails from Lenovo’s Value Line range. It is an update to the Lenovo G530 that is also from the same range. The main difference between the two is the shift from a 16:10 display to a 16:9 display. Besides that, in terms of design, the Lenovo G550 sports a black weave pattern as compared to the Lenovo G530’s smooth matte exterior finish. The main cover is made of durable material that can prevent any screen distortion even if the back of the screen is hit or flexed. As for the interior, it is of the same colour as the lid but is textured with a rougher matte finish that is similar to that on unpainted sectios of a ThinkPad. In terms of colour scheme, the Lenovo G550 sports a classic back-to-basics ThinkPad colour that makes it black inside and out. As for the chassis, it is constructed entirely out of plastic but feels solid enough to be sturdy.
Specifications
There is also a 15.6 inch LCD display with glossy screen and LED backlight. Besides that, the display also has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a maximum WXGA resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. In terms of video features, the Lenovo G550 incorporates an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD. The Lenovo G550 operates on a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional operating system. Alternatively, it is also backwards compatible with a Microsoft Windows XP Pro. Additional features include a network card that features Ethernet 10/ 100 Mbps, Wireless Ethernet IEEE 802.11 Draft N, Wireless Ethernet IEEE 802.11 a, Wireless Ethernet IEEE 802.11 b, and Wireless Ethernet IEEE 802.11 g. Reviews

“The Lenovo G550 is a very solid and durable notebook, but now is missing some of the features that were standard on the previous revision. From what could only be considered cost-cutting measures, Lenovo took away one USB port, removed the ExpressCard slot, and moved to an ALPS touchpad. These types of changes might not look as bad if the retail price also dropped, but it is selling for the same price as (if not slightly more than) the previous model. I would still gladly take this model over a lot of the small-business targeted notebooks on the market, but it is just a shame that it is no longer as nice as it once was.” (NotebookReview, 2009)

“Lenovo G550 is a solid notebook delivering good performance. It is better than most other business targeted notebooks in the market. The only problem is that it lacks some of the standard features found on the previous version. ” (LaptopAdvisor, 2009)

“While this is a budget product it contains certain features are typically found on higher end products.” (Retrevo, 2009)

Reviews

“The Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 is a nice, mid-range multimedia machine, and Lenovo even includes some nice extras if you want to customize your rig. Multimedia fans will appreciate the good, LED backlit display, which did a fine job with our movies, as well as the standard outputs for an HDTV, and the battery life that was strong enough to get through a long, loud action flick. We loved the deep, responsive keyboard that felt more like typing on full size desktop keys. Some of the extras fell flat with us, though, including the unimpressive “Dolby” speakers and subwoofer, or the time-consuming VeriFace logon. There was also plenty of bloat to slow things down or cause problems, and we wish Lenovo had focused on adding multimedia software instead of the wealth of security options. Overall, though, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 is a nice machine at a competitive starting price, and makes for a reasonable buy even with some serious upgrades for the graphics processor and system memory. We were pleasantly surprised with its performance from casual Web surfing to playing intense first person shooters. It’s not as stylish as some other options, but it packs plenty of punch and makes for a solid device.” (InfoSync, 2009)

“Take the battery life you see advertised for any laptop with a grain of salt. Why? A few vendors still use unrealistic testing parameters in order to report the longest battery life possible. For example, a “tested” laptop simply might be turned on, with the screen brightness lowered to the darkest level, and allowed to run down without anyone touching it. When the laptop undergoes typical, everyday use–say, with the screen brightness turned up to a readable level and with the user working in several applications or playing a CD or DVD movie–its battery life could be much shorter than a vendor’s claims.” (PCWorld, 2009)

“The Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 has a 15.6″ screen and is packed with an array of multimedia features. Some of its most notable features include DDR3 memory for fast processing, advanced graphics, and a high-end Full HD 16:9 widescreen panel. The IdeaPad Y550 is available in six different models ranging from $699.00 to $1,199.00.” (DigitalTrends, 2009)
