
The Dell Vostro 1700 is an affordable laptop built for small business that provides end-to-end solution for their operation. It features a display with 17-inch Ultra-Sharp widescreen TrueLife WUXGA LCD display, along with 1920-by-1200 pixels of resolution. The laptop is built around the Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 Dual-Core Processor that comes with a 2.4 GHz, Mobile Intel PM965 Express chipset, plus it has 800 MHz of data bus speed. Its configuration also includes 4 MB of L2 cache that temporarily stores data and it can help speed up the system’s performance, dual drive with a total of 320 GB hard drive (Serial ATA with rotation speed of up to 5400 rpm and 2-by-160GB) that provides a massive storage for storing multimedia collections or editing digital video, along with 4 GB dual channel of DDR2 SDRAM that has 667 MHz speed. Apart from that, its graphics is managed by the Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100 (also support nVidia GeForce 8600 GT graphic card with 256MB) that provides extraordinary faster graphic performance, quality visual and flexible display options, plus it is equipped with a 256MB of dedicated video memory. Its 8-in-1 media card reader supports a variety of flash memory cards such as Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard, SD Memory Card, SDIO, SDHC, SDHD, Memory Stick Pro and xD-Picture Card for fast transferring of data, video and photos. The Dell Vostro 1700 comes with a black coloured enclosure designed with Multi-Core Intel “Santa Rosa” platform technology, magnesium-alloy chassis for adding more strength to the laptop, StrikeZone shock absorber technology for protecting the hard disk, Mylar feature enabling the keyboard to sealed and safe from dust and water spills; and built-in devices stereo speakers. With a 17-inch screen, the laptop definitely looks big a bit heavy compared to other laptops. It comes with a product dimension that measures in at 15.5-inch (39.4cm) in width, 11.5-inch (29.3cm) in depth, 1.7-inch (4.4cm) in height and weighs in at 7.71 pounds (3.49 kilograms).

The Dell Vostro 1700 is pre-installed with genuine Microsoft Windows Vista Business (Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic or Microsoft Vista Home Premium) as its operating system. Furthermore, additional software that comes together with the machine includes Dell MediaDirect technology for a quick one-touch access to calendar, contacts and files, Roxio software; Microsoft Works and 30-days trial Norton Internet Security.

Review
The Vostro desktops and laptops are designed not to include any of what Dell calls “trialware”, but instead will include a simplified proprietary of networking software and versions of the Dell PC Tune-Up and DataSafe Online programs found in the newest Inspiron systems. Vostro systems will also have a dedicated sales and support team, trained to work with small businesses – (CNET News, 2007).
