Toshiba finally released their Viamo laptop ultrasound system which is the “industry’s no-compromise ultrasound system with advanced radiology capabilities, previously unavailable on hand-carried systems.” What this device does is it combines a laptop system with radiology features which in turn, will create a portable ultrasound examination system. What it offers are best-in-class imaging capabilities – laptop size; color flow is real good; there’s a simple touch-screen interface; there’s the ability to interchange Toshiba transducers while using the Viamo’s transportation pole. The first feature is said to be the best for high-end radiology, vascular, emergency, bariatric and OB/GYN exams even by your bed. The good image quality and color flow are on the same level as the ones found on bigger and expensive devices. The touch-screen interface is programmable in panel or tablet modes. The ability to interchange will definitely improve productivity and flexibility while saving health care costs by reducing the need to purchase multiple transducers.
