The Lenovo ThinkPad T500 is a notebook that comes with a 15.4-inch WXGA 24-bit 16.7 million color TFT CCFL-backlit widescreen display with 1280 by 800 pixel resolutions.

It is powered by the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache; upgradeable to a P9400 with 2.40 GHz speed on 1066 MHz 6 MB L2 cache) and runs Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic or Vista Business. It has a 2 GB of PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM with 1067 MHz speed on SODIMM Memory (through 2 DIMM slots), 160 GB hard disk drive HDD (5400 rpm or 7200 rpm options) capacity. The T500 also supports a CD-RW / DVD-ROM Combo 24X / 24X / 24X / 8X Max, Ultrabay Slim (Serial ATA) with DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim (Serial ATA) optical drive.

It can also support optional Bluetooth® PAN connectivity, IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless via Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology or ThinkPad WiFi (BGN), integrated mobile broadband upgradeable, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator x4500HD with vPro or ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB with Intel Advanced Management Technology (hybrid switching) graphics card, UltraNav trackpoint and touchpad and built-in web camera. It is powered by a 6-cell battery, measures 14.1 inch x 10.0 inch x 1.3 inch and weighs 6.0 lbs. The ThinkPad T500 also supports a 7-in-1 card reader, and features an Ultrabay Slim expansion bat with one CardBus – SO DIMM 204-pin, one ExpressCard/54 – Type I/II, two Memory slot, 3.0 microphone / Phone line / 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15), one headphones / Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T 4 pin FireWire, one Display / video output RJ-11, one modem input 4 pin USB Type A, one Hi-Speed USB VGA RJ-45, one network 20 pin DisplayPort, one IEEE 1394 (FireWire) with mini-phone 3.5 mm jack and one Display / video mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm jack interface. The ThinkPad T500 features Intel Active Management Technology (iAMT), Security lock slot (cable lock sold separately), Hard drive password, Administrator password, and Power-on password. The T500 is EPA Energy Star Compliant, EPEAT Compliant EPEAT Gold and has Greenpeace policy rating Mar 2009.

The ThinkPad T500 features the Intel® Turbo Memory that optimizes boot time, applications loading and power conservation. The ThinkPad T500 saves more than 25% energy which leads to prolonged computing time. The T500 also features LCD Backlight Displays and solid state drive (SSD) that uses less battery power and create less heat. The switchable graphics options lets users move to lower quality graphics maximum mobile computing time is required. The ThinkPad T500 also automatically switches the optical disk drive and audio to a low power state when left idle. The notebook comes bundled with software such as the Green Power Scheme, Battery Stretch, and ThinkPad EnergySaver technology. The T500 also comes with switchable graphics option. This is accessible by pressing hot-key between Performance and Power Saving graphics modes, or switch via the software user interface. Users are not required to reboot to switch modes, and one unified driver covers both discrete and integrated graphics. The LED backlit displays on the ThinkPad T Series provides 25% increased brightness display and uses no more than 2 Watts of power. The ThinkPad T500 also features wide dimming range of the LED backlit display that allows users to reduce brightness without compromising their viewing on the display in dim environments such as an aircraft cabin or a lecture hall, as well as ThinkLight® which is an LED in the top edge of the display lights the keyboard so users can keep working even in the dark. The LED backlit display is made mercury-free. Other features on the T500 are Display video port which gives users the ability to attach a high-resolution digital DVI monitor using a DisplayPort connector (which is an interface used in notebooks, monitors, televisions, and projectors); wireless connectivity with Mobile Broadband-ready capabilities which allows users to stay connected with friends and family while on the go as long as it is within range of a cellular provider, Ultra-Wideband Bluetooth, and WiMax-ready capability. Mobile Broadband-ready connects the ThinkPad to a mobile broadband network and switch to a different carrier during the life of the system. Combined with an integrated web cam, microphone and 1280×800 pixel resolution screen, users can initiate video conferencing with those they want to stay in touch with. The T500 also has Ultra-Wideband USB technology for wire-free connection and is WiMax-ready for long-range wireless broadband technology. The T500 also features Access Connections™ software that allows users to manage connectivity options as they move from location to location and Adaptive Thermal Technology for low temperature and quiet operation. The Thermal Management automatically adjusts processor and fan speeds to keep a consistently quieter system. The 3-speed to 4-speed Fan transition mode provides low acoustic levels at 3 db.
